At low temperature, resistance rises and aggressive charging can increase lithium-plating risk. Sandia describes temperature-dependent degradation as a continuum between low-temperature lithium plating and high-temperature SEI formation; it also reports that calendar-aging rates increase with temperature.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-46f35418 auto-p elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"46f35418\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Cooling therefore has two economic effects. It consumes auxiliary energy, reducing net AC energy and revenue, while also protecting future capacity and power. The policy with the lowest auxiliary consumption can still have a higher lifecycle cost.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-823b46ea auto-p elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"823b46ea\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">PNNL field testing illustrates the trade-off. Small differences in resistance, capacity, terminal connections and temperature are enough to produce different cabinet or string currents and SOC trajectories.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7972d0f6 auto-p elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7972d0f6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Recent Oak Ridge National Laboratory work reports that battery modules and packs experience current imbalance and uneven cell aging, and that electrical resistance and terminal location affect that imbalance. Its modeling found that reducing current imbalance produced more uniform aging and better pack-level degradation prediction (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ornl.gov\/publication\/physics-based-analysis-cell-imbalances-and-aging-lithium-ion-battery-modules-and-packs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ORNL, 2025<\/a>).<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1f51c261 auto-p elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1f51c261\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Experimental and analytical research on dissimilar parallel batteries also shows that capacity and resistance variability can create current and SOC imbalance.
